Anti-social Behaviour

Unfortunately, anti-social behaviour is the area where we get most of our problems, and is one of the most recurring themes of our neighbourhood watch meetings.

Dealing with Anti-social Behaviour

Anti-social behaviour has become a policing issue in recent times due to the introduction of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. The police would encourage the public to ring in (or use the incident reporting facility) to report anti-social behaviour or incidents so that they are kept aware of what is happening in the community. It may not necessarily trigger a police deployment, but the information and intelligence is logged for future reference and as evidence. Over time, patterns will emerge concerning individuals who are regularly committing acts of anti-social behaviour - this is where the recorded information can then be used in addressing the individuals behaviour, either through working with other agencies, or through the courts if all else has failed.

ASBOs and Exclusion Orders

The police have issued Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) on certain individuals and have nominated certain areas as exclusion zones for certain groups. This is a fairly drastic and lengthy measure (involving the courts) but if there is enough consensus RNWA can push for more.

Incident Reporting

Don't forget: this website contains an excellent incident reporting facility. This may not get the police cars turning-up with "twos and blues", but it is a log of all the incidents that you may wish to report. If enough people take the two or three minutes it takes to fill this in we will be able to get a really powerful pattern of just what is happening in RNWA.
